We are proud to welcome chef Augustus Paquette-Whall to Morning Glory Farm, where he oversees all aspects of our kitchen and bakery production.
Augustus grew up on the Island and graduated from the Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School, before heading off-Island to develop his skills as a fine-dining chef and restaurant manager in Chicago. While there, he worked with famed chefs such as Marcus Samuelsson, Giuseppe Tentatore and Jose Garces.
It was always his plan to bring those chops back to the Vineyard, where in recent years Augustus has made a name for himself as the chef at State Road restaurant in West Tisbury.
“This is where I want to live and raise my kids,” he says.
While kids are still in the future for Augustus and his wife, during the 2020 Covid-19 shutdown he decided it was time to dial back on the late-night hours that come with being a dinner chef.
State Road owners Mary and Jackson Kenworth encouraged him to apply for the position at Morning Glory, and heartily recommended him to us.
We consider ourselves lucky to have Augustus at the helm of our farm kitchen and scratch bakery. He really gets what we do.
“I’ve always strived as a chef to work with local farms, so the fact that I am literally connected to it, and get first dibs on produce, is amazing,” he says.
While the Morning Glory Farm kitchen will continue turning out your longtime favorites like Deb’s Meat Loaf and our crunchy mac & cheese, Augustus expects to introduce some new dishes as the season unfolds. Keep an eye on our carry-out section for the appearance of farm-fresh enchiladas and — dare we say it? — grab and go sandwiches as well.
