It’s time to think about planting peas. Not only are they one of the earliest crops of spring — your harvest could win you prizes and bragging rights in our fifth annual First Peas to the Table Contest.
The first person to bring us a measured cup of mature shelled peas will receive a Morning Glory Farm gift certificate, a voucher for a free trip to the salad bar and a delicious risotto prepared by Meg Athearn from the winning peas.
The winner also will be crowned, sashed and photographed for our archives.
Our contest is only five years old, but its inspiration comes from the 18th century, when Thomas Jefferson and his farming neighbors near Monticello vied for the first peas every spring.
